In A Shift From Hotel Vivier To Maison Vivier, Roger Vivier Unveils A New Women’s SS23 Collection

Quintessentially Roger Vivier was the collection- one of interaction and imagination, that was unveiled during Paris Fashion Week. It’s a collection of the best cobblery, giving a nod to the House’s eponymous founder Mr. Roger Vivier.

For those that attend the Roger Vivier collection unveilings, you know how camp-esque and larger than life those events have been under the guise of “Hotel Vivier.” But, it seems those days are past. Gherardo Felloni, the House’s Creative Director has opted to take a more serious route, transforming the brand from a party girl, if you will, to a more respected and refined woman, calling it “Maison Vivier.” As you arrive things were calmer with the shoes being on display, artisans from embroiderers, master leather cutters, and crystal setters, created shoes, with models calmly sitting in a set up garden.

Diving into the Roger Vivier archives, Felloni wanted to create something that reflected the values of the House. "Roger Vivier was an inventor who changed Fashion and the history of accessories. My job is to highlight the Maison's legendary values and his visionary creativity. 'What would Roger Vivier do?' In today's fast-paced digital world, it felt like the right moment to remark on Roger Vivier's singular impact and own the house signature codes," he states in collection notes.

What Felloni and his creative team has done with the collection is make Mr. Vivier’s legacy relevant to today. For instance, the Virgule Flowers Blow Sling Back shoe was created in 1963. Done in an electric acid yellow color slingback pump with a 2-inch heel, it was a feminine favorite. And the gemstone and beadwork detail add a unique touch. So, the shoe was reimagined for the collection.

As guests entered the space they were met with a life-sized wooden shoe sculpture, a replica of the 1987 shoe made for the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Then guests made their way, at their own pace to six rooms with six themes: “King of the Heel”, “Belle Vivier”, “I Love Vivier”, “Collages”, “Virgule”, Embroideries and Jewel heel.”

The Viv’ Choc Flowers Bag is a work of artisanal craftsmanship, though it is a limited edition. “Arriving in the same electric acid yellow, the bag displays multi-color strass and crystal gemstone floral motifs bordered by a trim of crystal with a strass buckle,” shares the House. “Color is fundamental to expressing emotion through a shoe,” says Felloni.

While there is this transition from Hotel Vivier to Maison Vivier, the fun essence of the House and designs of the shoes are still there. Colorful, comfortable, and cute are what make the SS23 Roger Vivier collection to die for.
